Regarding Costa Rica, I am still trying to figure out a way to make it work, but it isn’t looking likely. Please be in touch with any concerns or needs. It’s best to email at Stella dot Eisenstein at Gmail dot com.
I’m also super excited that Charles is going to speak with Iain McGilchrist in his Sanity Project course. Below is my latest summation (originally posted on FB) of why I find his lens so helpful. Remember: The right/left coherency alluded to here seems to be what we are doing when applying Resonant Attention.
Recently, somebody crowed at me, "Consciousness is dead." Formerly a psychonaut, they had apparently abandoned the hope that the world around them was alive and responsive. Charles has given the origins of separation a good over-turning in "The Ascent of Humanity" and I do still think that's the most important book of the century. But lately I've been considering the brain's *morphology* in thinking about consciousness and culture (and healing!), assisted by "On Attending," Ian McGilchrist's footnotes to "The Master and His Emissary."
McGilchrist's basic idea is that our culture of separation is the result of preferencing the left brain. Because of the nature of the left brain and the corpus callosum, that causes us to denigrate the right brain's perceptions and deride them as 'primitive.' Problem is, the right brain perceives what's truly happening and the left brain does not.
No bueno, mi gente.
Then, yesterday I listened to Joe Rogan interview Paul Rosolie, the Amazon Jungle Protector. Rosolie made the gorgeous point that when you're living in an environment that is constantly subsuming you into itself, its aliveness is self-evident. You can not survive in the jungle without constantly receiving information from the living planet all around, the right brain's capacity, AS WELL AS a left brain that can strategize, tool use, and plan. In other words, people connected with their environment can be COHERENT. And people living indoors who spend all of their time manipulating ideas can not be. *We need nature to be whole.*
No wonder our culture has gone mad
Love,
Stella
Resonating with this share. And yes, no wonder our culture has gone mad. Grateful to people like you that question and investigate other ways of being. Looking forward to the interview with Charles.
Beautiful vulture! Wow! Since moving to the country and being outside every day, there has been a whole new world opened up to me that I had no idea was sitting right here waiting for me! My senses are becoming fine tuned to recognize different bird songs and wild plants, insects and amphibians. The deep love and joy that I feel when I see a tree frog or a raven is so amazing! It just feels so alive! Looking forward to the call with Iain McGilchrist! I got the Master and his Emissary on audiobook but haven’t had a chance to listen to much yet. It may have to wait til after the call. 😊
