‘Waves’ of illnesses are a common phenomenon—and nobody knows this more than the healthcare workers on the front lines. We see trends happening in real time, literally as they walk in the door. From this body worker’s perspective, though, the waves don’t just peak for illnesses considered ‘transmissible.’ They also show up in all kinds of other ways.
I’m thinking of that week that my smallish practice in Santa Fe had a spate of cancellations, all for the same, odd-ball reason: emergency root canal surgeries. Or the way it seems like, if you’re going to see one gallbladder obstruction, you’ll probably see five. Obviously, there are myriad factors that could simultaneously be overlapping, but ask any nurse about full-moon night in the ER and you’ll learn a lot about co-occuring, energetic influences on our beings.
Cultural energetics also play a role. When the politico-socio-cultural download mechanism we used to call the news starts injecting new inputs, we all have to digest the garbage at the same time—and that shows up in our bodies. When we’re all grappling with the latest thought form from our ‘trusted sources,’ waves of fatigue, diarrhea, and brain fog collectively hit, an epidemic of heavy energy, if you will. Our bodies are connected to our psyches are connected to each other. We therefore have to take into account planetary influences as a factor in our wellness. This is no different from saying that we are one with our environment.
The understanding that we are one with our environment is, of course, what is at the root of the Traditional Chinese Medicine understanding of how elemental factors affect our bodies. Only now ‘wood,’ ‘water,’ ‘fire,’ ‘metal,’ and ‘earth,’ are memes like ‘Republicans,’ ‘hurricanes,’ ‘climate change,’ ‘Democrats,’ and ‘war.’ These days, psychic factors are just as impactful to our experiences as the great forces of nature were to ancient Daoists. Unlike the sages, however, we grapple with them without being conscious of doing so, which makes them even more potentially destructive.
Waking up to the waves of collective energy that crash upon our individual shores can be really helpful when you’re trying to heal. If your diet is clean and your self-care practices haven’t fallen off, but you suddenly hit a bunch of frustrating new symptoms, don’t forget to consider the larger forces that might be at work. The understanding that your habits aren’t always at ‘fault’ can be incredibly relieving.
It’s also helpful to remember that memes and psychic warfare and half-truths and propaganda can also be easier to transmute than physical poisons, once we reclaim our agency by first understanding their energetic nature. Then all we have to do is meet the psychic attacks with love and presence, which is to say, Resonant Attention, and hold steady as they melt away like so much noise.
Love,
Stella

So True! And even within our families and relationships there is a way that old patterns hold sway and influence over our momentum, our beliefs in what is possible, who we are, and what is happening. To sit and sort through the many forces in and outside to find what is most true takes real tenacity. I had an experience of this this morning, and recognized that I can know what is true by what brings me most alive.
