Today, a student asked me a process question. When she practiced Resonant Attention, should she be imagining herself ‘sitting behind herself,’ as I frequently instruct, as well as imagining whatever bodily or energetic structures she was trying to hold in her minds eye?
Nope!
The suggestion to ‘sit behind yourself’ is meant to point to an energetic attitude that one holds. It is a felt sense of the energetic body, what a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner might call the Hun, which is the part of the soul said to sleepwalk. The Hun distances itself a little bit from the physical and mental bodies. While the minds eye, or the imagination, is holding awareness on the physical body, the Hun actually moves back just a little bit, disengaging, or getting out of the way so that the patient’s body can freely act.
Meditators might recognize this feeling as ‘witness consciousness.’ It might feel to you more like just a deep stillness. In another session today, I also described it as, ‘just let your hands do what they’re going to do,’ essentially pointing out that you actually don’t do much; you literally just get out of the way. The body’s resources become mobilized by the resonant attention—and then unleashed when it becomes clear that the mind isn’t going to take over fixing things.
Making space for the body—either yours or your client’s—to step up and go to work on itself can feel like handing over the car keys to your teenager. Healthcare is so important! Shouldn’t we trust the professionals? Well, yes: The ones inside!
Love,
Stella
PS - There are still spots for this weekend’s Group Healing session, which will be at 11am EASTERN on Saturday, December 10th. It’s a great way to get a sense of how accessible healing is in Interbeing, to practice, and to bring new people to the party! Click here to join.
Thank you got clarification
Hi Stella
I’ll try and explain .
I wanted to be a participant in the healing session you provide. I realize $5 contributions will not allow for a private session, obviously. I thought the $5 subscription allows me in on the listening component of healing sessions.
Thanks
