The Astoundingness of Being Human
I’ve been a little out of touch because, as many of you know, I am traveling right now in Costa Rica. We’re here to enrich Cary’s homeschooling experience, to write, and also to check out a community outside of San Jose called La Ecovilla San Mateo. It seems like it will be an amazing place to do bodywork retreats some day—I’ll keep you posted! And if you happen to be in the market for a lot, tell them we sent you.
The best thing about LaEcovilla is the school here, called Casa Sula. It’s a free school, except very limited screens. Cary fits right in and has been having a fine time, but he’s home today with a sniffle, so we worked on a letter to his friends back home. To help him get the idea, I found this:
You guys! Look at that penmanship! Listen to that grace! These days we consider ourselves masters if we don’t hunt and peck. The skill humanity has access to is seriously under explored.
So that’s why I’m sending this to you—just to remind you what quotidian astoundingness you can achieve with a little practice. Keep coaching your inner child. Keep putting your hands on your body. You’re capable of so much! I’m already in awe of what you’ve achieved.
I’ll be putting up new sessions on Wednesday, February 1st, and already looking forward to seeing you again. For those of you at home, I will be back February 15th, so text me after that for appointments in March (or possibly late Feb).
Love,
Stella
UPDATE: Someone has brought to my attention that this is probably not a hand-written letter, but, rather, a font. That cracks me up. I do know for a fact that the general level of handwriting was much higher in previous centuries, though. Cary I visited the whaling museum in New Bedford last fall and were drooling over the gorgeous handwriting in the ships logs. Onward!
